FAQ - frequently asked questions

A list of the most frequently asked questions and answers, prepared by the Student Government of the Lodz University of Technology:

1. Where can I look for up-to-date information on the next TUL activities in relation to the epidemiological situation?

The official source of information is: www.koronawirus.p.lodz.pl/. Any questions related to the situation can be submitted to the following address: koronawirus.student@info.p.lodz.pl

 

2. Where can I find official information related to the coronavirus epidemic?

We recommend using the website of the Ministry of Health (www.gov.pl/web/zdrowie) and the Chief Sanitary Inspectorate (www.gis.gov.pl/).

 

3. I feel bad and I am afraid I am infected with the coronavirus. What should I do?

Analyse your symptoms. If you have a cough, shortness of breath, breathing problems and a high fever (about 38 degrees Celsius or higher), be sure to contact the nearest sanitary and epidemiological station. If you need to be hospitalized as a result of suspected illness or being placed in quarantine, you are obliged to immediately notify the Dean of your faculty about your condition.

 

4. I feel that I cannot cope with the current situation, especially in connection with the isolation and the threat of infecting myself or my relatives. What can I do?

5. Will it be possible to settle any formalities at the university during the period when classes are cancelled?

Yes. The university administration will work during this time. It is recommended to settle all matters remotely, if possible (send documents by e-mail or post, contact by phone and e-mail). It will be possible to settle matters by direct contact in exceptional situations where there is no other possibility. 6. Is access to TUL buildings forbidden?

No, but it is limited to an absolute minimum. In order to enter the TUL building, you must show your identity card. Moreover, there is a limited number of available entrances to the campuses. The entrance to campus A is only through the entrance at ul. Żeromskiego 116, to campus B at ul. Wróblewskiego 3/5, to the MITR at ul. Wróblewskiego 15.

 

7. What can I do if I am to be removed the student list in the current situation?

All applications to maintain your registration for the summer semester (i.e. staying at university), explanations in this matter and other necessary documents should be sent via e-mail to the Dean's office, using the university's e-mail address. If you are required to submit original applications, they should be sent by post. The procedures of possible actions and the time limit  for doing so remain unchanged.

 

8. Can I make an appointment with the Dean for Student Affairs?

All Vice-Deans for Student Affairs must set the consultation hours by phone – you will be able to discuss your case.

 

9. What about setting deadlines, e.g. for the diploma exams?

All deadlines remain the same. You should send your applications and any other necessary documents by e-mail to the Dean's office, using the university's e-mail address. If you are required to submit original applications, you should send them by post (this particularly applies to an appeal against a decision to remove students from the list of students).

 

10. Will it be necessary to catch up in summer due to cancelling classes? What about the exam session?

It should be taken into account that the schedule of the academic year will change, although at the moment there is no specific information in this matter. Currently, some classes are organized in the form of e-learning, to which all TUL lecturers are obliged.

 

11. Meetings of student organisations and scientific clubs - can they organise meetings and use premises at the university when their activities are put on hold?

No. It is only possible to organize meetings online. It is also not possible to conduct research work by members of Scientific Clubs on the premises of the university during the suspension of classes.

 

12. Can remote classes be conducted on platforms other than Wikamp?

Yes, the choice of platform or other programs used to conduct online activities is left to the teachers’ decision.

 

13. I have not managed to validate my ID card. Can I still do it?

At the moment it is not possible, but it is not necessary either - by decision of the Minister of Science and Higher Education your ID card will remain valid until May 31 of this year and you do not need to take any action.

 

14. Is it possible to collect a student ID card at the Dean's Office for students starting their MA studies from this semester?

Yes, the information about this is included in the point. 10 "Information No. 2" of the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs available at koronawirus.p.lodz.pl website. It is worth making an appointment by phone to collect your ID card in advance to avoid problems.

 

15. I have just started my studies, but I do not have a password for Wikamp and WebDziekanat. What can I do?

Obtaining a password to the University's IT system for students who have not yet received it is done at the student's e-mail request through the Dean's Office. It sends an e-mail to the TUL E-Learning Center with the student's data (name, surname, student register number, mobile phone number). The E-Learning Center sends the text message with the access password to the telephone number indicated by the Dean's Office.

 

16. What about signing contracts with the university in connection with the commencement of second-cycle studies from this semester?

The final deadline for signing the contract is postponed by the period of suspension of classes, i.e. 33 days - currently it is not possible to sign it.

 

17. When will I be able to defend my diploma thesis?

During the period of suspension of classes at Lodz University of Technology, it is possible to apply to the Vice-Deans for Student Affairs for the organization of the diploma thesis defence exam in an online form. The exam will take place via Microsoft.

 

18. What about students who now have 3 months of internships? Are they supposed to stay at home or still go on these internships?

Students who are currently doing internships have the possibility to suspend them, and the decision on whether to recognize the part of the internship completed so far is made by the Vice-Dean for Students Affairs. 19. What about submitting applications for social and rector's scholarships?

It can be done in several different ways: 1. electronically by sending legible scans or photographs of the original printed, completed and signed application and all required documents (certificates, declarations, etc.) as attachments to the TUL e-mail message to the following address res@adm.p.lodz.pl or rss@adm.p.lodz.pl. They must then also be sent by post to the following address: Sekcja Obsługi Świadczeń PŁ, ul. Żeromskiego 116, 90-924 Łódź. 2. Applications can also be sent to the electronic application box of Lodz University of Technology on the platform ePUAP:  /PolitLodz/SkrytkaESP for files containing documents signed with the electronic signature. 3. Application files can be signed with the electronic signature of the trusted profile using the tool available at www.moj.gov.pl/uslugi/signer/upload?xFormsAppName=SIGNER and sent as attachments by e-mail to the previously indicated addresses. The described procedures also refer to applying for a special allowance or aid. First-cycle students applying for the Rector's scholarship are required to submit their applications by 24 April.

 

20. I have financial problems because of this situation. Can I get help from the University?

Yes, in this situation you can apply for support. The Ministry of Science and Higher Education recommends to universities that students submitting applications for one-off financial aid can justify them with extraordinary circumstances related to the current situation. 21. What about tuition fees for part-time studies?

The rules and amounts of payment for tuition fees for part-time studies remain unchanged. The payment dates have been postponed by 45 calendar days.

 

22. Will charges for retaking courses be changed?

The rules and amounts of payment for repetition of classes do not change, while the dates of payment for retaking classes in the summer semester have been postponed by 45 calendar days.

 

23. What about the fees for the student dormitories?

If you have previously paid for March, it will be moved and included in the fees for subsequent months. If you left and did not pay the fee, you do not have to do it. It does not apply to you for the period of suspension of classes at Lodz University of Technology (March 12 - April 14) and this will be included in later settlements.

 

24. I moved out of the dormitory earlier, but I left some belongings in place. What will happen to them?

Most likely, nothing – they will be left in place. Alternatively, they can be packed, marked and moved to another place in a way that allows them to be returned after coming back to the dormitory after the suspension period ends.

 

25. I would like to come back to Poland. Can I still do this?

Yes, absolutely. In the context of organising your return to Poland, we recommend following the information provided by the Polish authorities. You can reach the country by land and using charter flights organized by the authorities. For details please contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on +48 22 523 8880 (special hotline). 26. Can I take courses from a foreign university as part of Erasmus after returning to Poland?

If only the foreign university provides such a possibility, nothing seems to be the problem.

 

27. When the situation calms down, will I be able to return to a foreign university to finish my mobile semester?

Currently, there are no regulations that would prevent you from returning to a foreign university to complete your semester, but you should be aware that at any time there may be decisions or recommendations at both European and national level that could make this difficult and complicated. The foreign university itself will be able to decide that foreign students should not return to complete the current semester. In other words, the possibility of returning to a foreign university is very uncertain.

 

28. Will the TUL library be open?

The library and reading room are closed.

 

29. Will penalties for late return of a book to the TUL Library be charged?

No, the deadline for returning books is postponed until the time of cancellation.

 

30. I came back to Poland and terminated my contract with a foreign university. I would like to complete this semester at the Lodz University of Technology. What should I do?

Please, contact the appropriate Vice-Dean for Students Affairs and the Dean's Office. Write down which subjects you would like to attend (choose those realized in the summer semester at TUL from www.programy.p.lodz.pl ) together with their code and the name of the teacher (course leader).  You should do this by 8 April at the latest! 31. Will the TUL library be open?

The library and the reading room is closed.

 

32. Will penalties for late return of a book to the TUL Library be charged?

No, the deadline for returning books is postponed until the end of lockdown.
